19th century Swedish pine bureau or "secretary cabinet" incorporating an upper clock feature. The piece retains an older yellow-toned painted finish with a visible burgundy red underlayer. While the paint is not original to the early 1800s cabinet, it is old and well suited to the age and Swedish character of the piece. Decoratively carved details are present throughout, including a carved desk front, fluted carved panel doors, and a carved bonnet or crown typical of Swedish furniture from this period.
The desktop opens and rests on extending wooden arms; there is no lock or key. The interior desk section opens to reveal four drawers and a central cubby for storage with contrasting blue painted interior. The upper cabinet doors open to reveal uniquely arranged shelving. Left door is held in place with an old metal latch while a new clip latch was added to the interior of the right door.
Typical age-related wear is present throughout, such as cracks (seen throughout including desktop), dried old worm holes, age related separation, etc. consistent with a piece of this age and use. Note the crackles along the clockface, which is attached to a thin wood backing. No glass cover for clockface.
This bureau secretary cabinet has been restored, is strong, stable, and ready for use. Built in two sections.
Open depth 25.75"
