Early 19th Century Swedish Original Painted Gustavian Narrow Bench

Early 19th century Swedish Gustavian narrow bench, crafted in pine with a highly distressed original painted finish. Layers of green, teal blue, white, and gray remain visible throughout the worn surface, creating a warmly aged patina developed through generations of use.

Simple carving accents the upper back and side rails, while traditional fluted carved details run along the legs and front. Four finials decorate the upper corners and complete the classic Gustavian form.

The removable bench seat is upholstered in newer natural linen and lifts away to reveal the narrow interior below. The bottom shows old age related separation of planks and is restored and secured with screws at a more recent point in time with age.

Nicks, old markings, and minor cracks are visible throughout, with additional wear along the bottoms of the feet. An old repair with metal reinforcement is visible at the right rear foot. These signs of age do not impact the stability or function of the bench.

Restored, stable, and ready to use. Seat Height: 19.5"
